Why a Window Cleaning Robot Leaves Streaks—and What to Change

Give the cloth a clean starting point

A compact cloth cannot absorb unlimited pollen, grease or construction dust. Keep clean and used pads separate, fit the correct size and align every edge so fabric does not interfere with sensors or movement. Wash by the maker's method and rinse out detergent fully. Fabric softener and residue can reduce absorbency or leave a film, so do not use them unless specifically allowed. Let the pad reach the required dryness. Some models expect a dry cloth while others specify a different preparation; there is no universal dampness recipe.

Control the liquid instead of increasing it

More spray does not automatically mean cleaner glass. Excess fluid can redistribute soil, cause drips and reach traction areas; too little may leave dry drag marks on a finishing pass. Use only the reservoir fill, solution type, concentration and spray mode in the exact manual. Do not mix ammonia, vinegar, soap, alcohol or another cleaner into a reservoir unless the manufacturer names it as compatible. If the glass has a pre-existing coating or residue, confirm a safe preparation method for that surface.

Use multiple stages for neglected glass

A heavily soiled exterior pane may require loose debris to be removed first, followed by a finishing pass with a clean cloth. Follow the model's process rather than placing a wet pad directly onto grit. Break large windows into a pad-management plan, changing cloths before they become saturated with soil. Robot cleaning also may not reach tight corners or material right against some frames. A small hand finish from a safe position can be more realistic than repeated automated passes that spread contamination.

Know when streaks indicate a maintenance problem

If fresh approved pads and the documented liquid process produce the same repeating mark, inspect the accessible underside for residue, wear or a mis-seated component. A damaged carrier, irregular drive surface, obstructed nozzle or uneven movement needs exact-model guidance. Do not sand, lubricate or reshape a part.
